New Kids On The Block

Lots to do today, but I wanted to put in my two cents (yet once again) especially aimed towards the new SL bloggers out there. I have seen a lot of advice and many tutorials on the feeds these last few weeks. I applaud the people taking time out to help along those that may not have their skills at the highest level. It takes a long time to write tutorials; I have done hundreds in RL and I can easily vouch for that *wink*.  But there are some very basic things to think about before you decide about high rez snapshots, Windlight settings and such.

Someone (sorry, I didn't bookmark it) made a complete "how to do a shoot" set of tutorials which while I didn't agree with every point of course, definitely admired. Looking at all that we do on a daily basis to get our post or posts out each day, week or whatever is fairly daunting. Most of us have learned over time. We were NOT this good in the beginning of our self-made careers as I was reminded so pointed yesterday when I looked up an old blog post.  So here (once again) are some things to think about as you begin your blogging journey and work on your skill level. As a personal exercise I am listing them in the order of importance from MY point of view :D.

1. Have fun! While some of us consider blogging a job of sorts, I hope that none of us actually feel we are working without enjoyment. Play, enjoy your day.

2. Realize that not every post will be "art". Sometimes information is enough, but try to do your best.

3. Find the style of blogging that works for you. If you never want to write a word besides style notes, pattern your work in the photoblog style. If you just love to chat and keep in touch with your friends, write. Remember that adding a photo now and then is a good plan in any type of electronic media.

4. When you start to work on improving your skills, think to the basics first. Before you even get to the high rez snapshots or no question, think about composition. If you don't understand what composition is or how it works, look it up on the web. Art basics are just that - basic. The same "rules" (feel free to break them - just learn them fist :D) apply in painting, sculpture and photography.

5. If you are fashion blogging, find some good poses. Free ones abound these days and there are many low cost ones too. Get a few good basic poses and add to those as time goes by.

Keep reminding yourself that if you aren't having fun, there really is no reason to continue. Find a way to have fun -- and you can blog forever!
